NOTRE HISTORIQUE

The Association Modeste et Innocent – AMI in acronyms – is a non-profit association (asbl) which was created on 01/02/2000, the date of the signing of its statutes by its twelve founding members. It was imagined by Laurien NTEZIMANA to perpetuate the memory of his late companions Modeste MUNGWARAREBA, priest, who died on May 4, 1999 and Innocent SAMUSONI, father of a family, killed on April 30, 1994 during the genocide, Both of them had witnessed Ubuntu in the difficult context that preceded the genocide. The three were founders and leaders of the Theological Animation Service of the Catholic Diocese of Butare, a service that, from 1990 to 1999, distinguished itself in the promotion of peace in Rwanda. On 25 November 1998, Modeste and Laurien were awarded the Peace Prize by Pax Christi International in recognition of their commitment to the peace and non-violence in Rwanda, while on 23.02.2003 Laurien NTEZIMANA received the Theodor Haecker Prize, awarded by the city of Esslingen am Neckar, for the protection of the Tutsi during the genocide and his commitment to the reconciliation of ethnic groups.
