As apart of the monitoring and evaluation of the implementation of Rwanda’s Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Policy, an evaluation team composed of partners involved in the implementation of ADR, including the Ministry of Justice (MINIJUST), the Justice, Reconciliation, Law and Order Sector (JRLOS), the Ministry of Education (MINEDUC), and several civil society organizations, conducted a field visit to Karongi District in Western Province.
During the visit, the team met with facilitators from Association Modeste et Innocent (AMI), organization member of JRLOS, to assess the progress made in promoting and implementing ADR mechanisms at the community level.
AMI presented its achievements in the implementation of ADR, highlighting mediation activities carried out among conflicting parties, the approaches used to promote dialogue and reconciliation, and the results achieved in preventing and peacefully resolving disputes.
The evaluation team commended AMI for its dedication and achievements in helping communities find peaceful solutions to conflicts. The team also encouraged the organization to continue its efforts in promoting access to justice and strengthening social cohesion through alternative dispute resolution mechanisms.
“The initiatives implemented by AMI demonstrate the important role that community mediation plays in preventing conflicts and promoting peaceful coexistence,” noted one member of the evaluation team.
The visit, forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the effectiveness and impact of Rwanda’s national Alternative Dispute Resolution policy.
